QSSMEB SURVEY 2025
In its continued commitment to rigorous, nationwide research, DATA has successfully undertaken a major survey assessing the quality of secondary education in Bangladesh. This large-scale initiative focused on Grade 8 students and was designed to provide insight into students’ learning outcomes, particularly in English and Mathematics. Each participating student completed subject-specific assessments in these two core areas, offering valuable data on both foundational skills and curriculum-level understanding.
The survey covered a total of 328 secondary schools and madrasas across 12 districts, with each school contributing an average of 25 student participants, alongside their English and Math teachers.
To ensure efficient and accurate data collection, 74 trained field officers were deployed over a 20-day field operation. While most schools were surveyed as scheduled, some schools that served as SSC examination centers have been confirmed for survey visits at a later date.
DATA established a robust system for real-time field coordination and data quality assurance. A dedicated communication channel was set up for regular questionnaire collection from the field. Upon collection, questionnaires are first coded by a team of 15 coders for clarity and consistency in response interpretation. These coded questionnaires are then passed on to 7 data entry operators for digitization.
Every stage of the data flow is meticulously managed. Once entered, the data is labeled and validated by a data analyst to ensure completeness and accuracy. This project also marks DATA’s return to administering PAPI (Paper and Pencil Interview) surveys, a methodology last employed in the 2018 Bangladesh Integrated Household Survey (BIHS).
This survey reflects DATA’s comprehensive capabilities in large-scale survey implementation—from field deployment and assessment administration to post-survey processing. It highlights DATA’s institutional memory, technical capacity, and deep understanding of diverse survey methods, positioning the organization as a leader in empirical research in Bangladesh.
